Everything you need to attract grackles to your backyard. This large iridescent black bird is common in the middle to eastern United States and Canada. The grackle is a strong bird, needing a sturdy feeder to accommodate its eating habits and its colonial nature. Bird Feeders Etc. has everything needed to feed and house grackles in your backyard.

Grackle Feeders

The best bird feeder for feeding grackles is a squirrel resistant or squirrel proof feeder. Grackles prefer sunflower seeds and cracked corn so keeping the squirrels out is necessary. Another problem with grackles is their colonial nature. They like to eat in large groups which often scares smaller birds away from the bird feeder. View your bird feeding options above to see various varieties of bird feeders designed to feed birds both big and small in the same yard.

Grackle Feeding

Best wild Bird Feeders and accessories for GrackleGrackles are generally found on backyard feeders during the spring and summer months. They like a variety of seeds but prefer sunflower seeds and cracked corn. These large birds are big eaters and can often empty a bird feeder in a day, thus scaring away smaller songbirds. The nature of their favorite seeds also makes squirrels a nuisance. Simple solutions exist so you can have grackles in your backyard along with the smaller birds. Caged bird feeders allow the smaller song birds to get at their feed without hassle from the larger birds. Squirrel resistant and squirrel proof feeders keep the seed nutrition only available for the grackles. Shop Bird Feeders Etc. online to find bird feeders allowing for full integration of various bird types such as the grackle.

Grackle Housing

Grackles spend a lot of time gathering nesting materials before building the actual nest. The male and female may gather grass, twigs, reeds and mud for over 4 weeks before construction begins. The female grackle is the nest builder and in about 5 days she constructs a sturdy nest lined with finer materials approximately 3 to 30 feet above the ground in a shrub or evergreen tree. To aid in the nesting of a grackle you must have a bird house large enough to accommodate the large bird. Make sure the house is at least 7 inches wide, 7 inches long and 16 inches high. The entrance hole must be at least 2.5 inches in diameter and located high on the house, giving the bird a deep area in which to build her nest. At Bird Feeders Etc. we sell many large bird houses for grackles. You can select from natural wood houses to recycled plastic board houses. If placing bird houses for grackles, hang more than one as grackles like to nest in groups.
