Everything you need to attract orioles to your yard. The distinctive bright orange of the male oriole is a welcome splash of color to any yard. Orioles are medium-sized songbird a little smaller than a robin. Bird Feeders Etc. has what you need to attract these beautiful birds to your yard.

Oriole Feeders

During an oriole’s mating season they prefer fruit and nectar. Bird feeders holding slices of orange, grape jelly and oriole nectar are your best choices for attracting orioles. Bird Feeders Etc. has a wide selection of fruit hanging bird feeders as well as nectar feeders specific to the oriole. View our oriole feeders above for more detailed descriptions of our offerings.

Oriole Feeding

Best wild Bird Feeders and accessories for OriolesThe diet of an oriole is primarily insects, fruits and flower nectar. The birds rely more heavily upon fruits and nectar during their breeding season and then turn to insects for a protein source during the rearing of their young. You will notice this behavior readily as one day your fruit feeders will be visited all day by the breeding pair and the next day you won’t see them at all. The oriole's appetite for caterpillars may help protect your trees and gardens from harmful pests. Shop oriole seed and feed above to get everything you need to hang fruit and nectar feeders in your yard.

Oriole Housing

Oriole nests are hanging baskets designed by the female in the spring. The oriole prefers to build its nest on tall trees 25-30 feet above the ground. While it may return to a nesting area year after year, it won’t use the same nest over. The oriole builds its nest from hair, strips of bark, grapevines, grass, plants and synthetic fibers. She lines her nest with grass, plant down and hair. Orioles don’t use man-made bird houses. The best you can do for an oriole is make nesting materials readily available. We offer a wide variety of nesting materials you can put in your yard to facilitate the building of an oriole home in your yard.

Types of Orioles

Modern American orioles are brightly colored and similar to the birds of England, and yet the two groups are not closely related. Unlike the old-world birds belonging to the Oriolidae family, American orioles are in the same family as blackbirds.

There are at least 9 species of oriole in North America including the Baltimore oriole, the Orchard oriole, the Bullock’s oriole, the Scott’s oriole, the Spot-breasted oriole, the Altamira oriole, the Audubon’s oriole, the Hooded oriole and the Streak-backed oriole.
